Student Talent Unlocked through Teacher Training

A New Chapter For Fadi At School With Coding

When Fadi, a Grade 4 student at Ajyal School in South Lebanon, joined his first coding class, he had never touched a computer before. At home, there was no internet and no digital devices. His mother, who works as the school’s janitor, never had the chance to learn to read or write.

Fadi found traditional school subjects difficult, and at first, the English-language terms in coding felt like another barrier. But something clicked.

Supported by his teacher Mr. Hassan — who had recently completed CodeBrave’s teacher training — Fadi began picking things up quickly. By the end of the term, he was solving problems before instructions were even finished. Today, he helps his classmates with their projects and has taken on the role of class assistant.

Fadi didn’t just learn to code. He discovered confidence, curiosity, and a sense of purpose. His story is a powerful reminder: when students are given access to quality education — and when teachers are supported to grow — children can thrive, regardless of their starting point.

Upskilling Teachers and Equipping Schools — with CG Fund Support

Fadi’s progress was made possible through CodeBrave’s School Upskilling Programme, supported by CG Fund. In 2024, his teacher was one of 12 teachers from six schools in South Lebanon who completed a 36-hour teacher training programme in the face of significant challenges.

This academic year, as teachers began delivering the curriculum, CodeBrave’s trainer carried out classroom observations and provided coaching to ensure students received the highest quality tech education.

Across all six schools, students like Fadi began learning coding in computer labs that had been fully equipped by CG Fund — giving them the space and tools to engage, explore, and thrive.

“Coding Changed the Atmosphere At School” — A Principal’s Reflection

Ajyal School principal, Ms. Samar Hallak, says she’s seen a clear shift in students’ learning habits since coding classes began.

“Coding is helping students think in a different way. They’re now so committed to learning in class. Before, there was chaos.”

She recalls one student who had been planning to drop out of school because he didn’t enjoy learning. During a recent coding lesson, his teacher posed a question and that same student was the first to offer the solution. “This alone makes my heart swell with pride,” she added.

“Coding is a golden opportunity for a school like ours. Our students deserve the same opportunities as other students.”

These stories show what becomes possible when students have access to meaningful learning. At CodeBrave, we believe every child holds immense potential — and that with the right support, they can flourish. Our role is to help unlock that potential, preparing students for a hopeful future in and for Lebanon.
